Waiting for the Harvest
Dear reader,
This letter will be short but necessary.
I have had a job at a rehabilitation and treatment center for troubled youth. Well, I have been completely removed from its employment for about three months or so now.
When I took the job as a teacher at the daycare I dropped my hours to one night a week at the center just to make sure I was taking care of myself mentally and emotionally, yet still showing the teens that I cared enough to check in on them.
I often wondered why I continued for roughly 7 hours a week for 3 months. I was able to take the kids to worship with me, but I figured they were only there for the free coffee available, not the truth that was offered.
I was so wrong.
I’m glad I was so wrong.
On two different occasions, I was able to baptize 2 different teens that I worked alongside for almost 10 months and see the fruit of the Holy Spirit right at the end of my career working in the toughest work environment I’ve ever loved. (Fantastic run-on sentence)
God was there. He was ever present in the most anxiety I’d ever felt.
He was there when I cried through multiple shifts over the hurt these kids were going through.
He was there when I was getting punched, kicked, and had blood spit on me.
He was there when I was screamed at and cursed at.
He was there when I was speechless.
He was there when I needed Him to speak through me.
He never left me, or forsake me.
I didn’t waste my time in that place. And that is my encouragement to you.
Wherever you are right now.
Work, Play, or Rest.
Where God has placed you, there he wants you to serve him. He wants you to trust him, he wants you to speak the truth of the Gospel to anyone who has ears to hear. He wants you to be willing to be used by the God of the Universe.
It’s a dreadful thing to be outside the will of God.
Make sure you both are on the same page.
God was always working when I was beaten up, tired, and defeated.
By his grace he allowed me to see some of the fruit at the very end of my labor.
If you haven’t seen fruit yet keep going, you may never see it. But I guarantee that God is and will continue to work with you for your good and his glory.
Until next time, your sometimes faithful servant,
-Mitchell
