To Have Faith Like Abraham

Dear reader, 

Has God ever told you to sacrifice your only child?

The idea seems rather barbaric and ungodly, but I ask it sincerely. 

If God asked you this, what would you do?

This is the internal struggle of Abraham. He waits for so many years for a son that God promises him, and when he finally receives that promise God challenges his faith with this request. 

“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Mori’ah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 

Could you do it?

Would you have the strength?

Would the doubts be too overwhelming?

I watched the movie His Only Son, from a film make’s point of view I didn’t enjoy it very much, but the ending was done very well. 

It emphasized the fact that God didn’t ask Abraham to do something He wasn’t willing to do himself. 

Telling Abraham to sacrifice His Only Son. 

God sacrificed His Only Son for us. 

That stuck with me. As it should. The images and parallels throughout scripture are intoxicating. God is so wonderful in how he wrote scripture, every word was intentional. 

As you leave this letter think about these things. 

What has God asked you to sacrifice before Him? 

And are you going to follow through with it?
