The Gospel in 'Zombies'
Dear reader,
I don’t know if you recall the trend back in 2010, but zombies in media became a powerhouse of a trend.
They were in music, TV shows, games, and movies. It truly seemed like they were everywhere you looked.
Zombie media never truly enticed me that much, almost all of it was exactly the same. They would either walk or run towards the survivor and eventually all the characters you liked would get their brains or arms eaten off.
But, for today’s letter, I want to draw your attention to the 2018 Zombies. It was a Disney TV channel movie that I truly didn’t really know existed. I’m not an advocate for Disney TV channel movies, but I will say if you are looking for a good time, find something on Disney that looks cheesy and make fun of it with your friends.
You won’t regret it.
That’s what this past weekend looked like for my friends and I. Due to the weather being atrocious outside, we stayed nice and warm and ridiculed the singing, dancing, zombies, and cheerleaders as they taught us about racism and diversity.
(Yes we watched all 3 of them back to back.)
You’d think there wouldn’t be a whole lot of sustenance in these stories. And you’d be right, the dialogue and characters were very bland, and the agenda of equality and racism was heavily pushed, but I kid you not God had me notice one small detail in the last Zombies movie that caught me off guard.
WARNING: I will be revealing the end of Zombies 3 in this next sentence, so if you had plans to watch this movie, go and watch it then come back. If not, by all means, come and see what God showed me.
In the third installment of the Zombies trilogy Aliens come to Seabrook and begin searching for the map that will lead them to Utopia, they are a harmonious race, and they thrive on communication through a link through each other's brains.
They find the person who will lead them to their utopia, and they ask them where they can go to find the utopia they have been searching for.
Images of Earth pop on their display screen and it shows all the hurt and injustice that happens on the Earth, one of the aliens steps back. “Oh no, earth cannot be the utopia, they are always bickering and discoursing about things that don’t matter.”
The protagonist speaks up. “Yes they do that a lot, but it’s really only after the conflict is done that we see that we’re all better for it.”
Who knew a line from a very cheesy Disney movie could hit me in such a powerful way? As some of you know I have been in a season of what seems to be consistent conflict.
The days have been hard to digest, with what seems to be unlimited problems, technological issues, or unforeseen roadblocks at every twist and turn. The past 2 weeks especially seemed to be getting nowhere as God seems to have let all of the forces of evil just wail on me with the lies and the torment that I’ve been through internally.
Yet God has been consistent and clear.
“This is for your good.”
My character has been in the fire, and the flames have increased tenfold. Yet God is still standing in the fire with me, and He isn’t going anywhere.
I don’t know where you stand. I don’t know if the flames are burning your skin and hair as they are mine, but know this dear friend God has not left you or forsaken you.
Take heart and be courageous. The conflict is for your good, believe that and run the race before you with a passion that only can come from Your Lord and Savior.
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Conflicted Character
