In the Style of C.S. Lewis's Screwtape Letters

Dear Barnuss, 

You took your first steps today. 

It was a bitter moment for me, I can’t say this enough, you will do great things for Our Dark Father. 

Before you enter your primary schooling I wanted to share a quick story. 

As a young angel, I was ambitious. I was cunning and I knew I could get what I wanted. When I saw the confidence in Lucifer as he stood up to The Enemy I believed deep in my black soul that I could make the same choice. 

There were so many of us cast out that day. It was a delightful sight. It felt so liberating to be out of the Enemy’s oppressive hands. We all gathered together on the newly made material earth and had to decide what to do next. 

That was when Lucifer shared with us his plan. 

He paced back and forth. His hands were behind his back where his wings used to be. 

When the words hit him it was almost as if he was ready to break into song. 

He was filled with anger and passion. 

“My brothers and sisters! We have a glorious purpose from this moment on. We will be a thorn in Our Creator’s side. We will be around every corner causing destruction and filling hearts with hurt. We must commit ourselves to this cause, we must act as if we are in complete rebellion of God. From this moment on we shall refer to Him as ‘The Enemy’ and treat him and his children as such.” 

At that moment He saw God walking with his new prized possessions in his exquisite garden—the first humans. 

“And so it begins…” 

Lucifer began to morph into a cunning beast. 

He was emerald green.  

A majestic serpent. 

He slithered over to the woman and uttered the most famous saying amongst us. “Did God actually say…?” 

I watched Lucifer, I studied his every word and strategy. I saw him elegantly tempt both humans, and I knew that I had been crafted to do the same thing. As will you one day my little devil. 

The Fall of Man has been celebrated by us fallen angels for centuries. We must remember where we came from, and why we do what we do. 

We’ve been ever-present in every monumental downfall or use of excellent evil devices throughout history. 

From The Flood to 9/11/2001.

From murderers, rapists, and thieves. 

Our Dishonorable legacy must be undisturbed. 

My son, I’ve watched many tragedies unfold before my eyes. I have helped plan some of the greatest ones to date. But there is one thing I must always convey. This war we wage against The Enemy is a losing one. 

We don’t win. 

Lucifer has been clear with all of us that we will come out victorious in this war, we all know better. Our Dark Father is a liar. He weaves lies consistently, there is no truth in him. I’ve learned the truth myself over the past millennia. But know this Barnuss, nevertheless, we must fight against The Enemy every day like it’s our last. Don’t waste your breath, let every word be used as a lie, a curse against your maker, or an arrow to pierce through the weaknesses in your target’s armor. 

You will excel in your training in deceit and destruction. 

You will be the greatest demon there is. 

You will make me so proud.
