How God Humbles Us

June 02, 20252 min read

Dear reader,

I am a human. As you are most likely one as well I’m sure you will relate to this story.

The other day I went on a shoot for my first client of the business I’ve started. It was amazing, I was ready to roll, I got my things and headed out into the Blizzard, (Go read that story if you haven’t already. It’s a doozy.) I felt as prepared as I could be.

I got to my location, which was about 40+ minutes away from my home, and I trekked through the snow to get inside.

I met with one of my interviewees, and began the small talk that one has in the mornings.

I took out the pieces to assemble the lighting kit I had. The tripod and Camera were set up, the microphone was ready. And just as chairs were set up and ready to go something terrible dawned on me.

I set my SD Cards out on my desk so I wouldn’t forget them, and I forgot them.

“So, there is one grand mistake one can make in my line of work, and I’ve done just that.”

The interviewees were filled with grace, and extended it to me. I ended up back on the road with one of them to go and purchase a new SD Card at Walmart.

On the drive over I could feel the nagging thoughts and emotions of embarrassment. It was real, I looked like an unprepared fool, like I didn’t know what I was doing at all. Yet God’s grace and mercy was clearly upon me, and I refused to put myself down.

We asked for assistance to unlock the SD Card for purchase, and as we neared the registrar my client wanted to pay for the card. My humbling mistake was used as an opportunity for him to bless me.

An $11 purchase might not seem like much, but his action lifted my shame off my shoulders and threw them as far away as possible. My humility was shown in it’s clearest light, and met with such warm embrace that I couldn’t help but smile.

This letter is a warning. I prayed for God to make me humble that morning, and he delivered tremendously. God says he will exalt the humble and pure in heart. Don’t leave this letter thinking it’s not wise to pray for increased humility.

I assure you that is what God wants from you. To have your hands open as you walk forward in this story and welcome the trials He brings your way for His glory, and your good.

Sincerely,

Your Fellow Sometimes Humble Fellow
