How Do You Represent Heaven?
Dear reader,
Who do you represent?
For five years I worked at a summer camp in Northern Michigan called Lake Ann Camp. They had very distinctive camp t-shirts that were required to be worn on Mondays when campers arrived, and Saturday when the campers left.
But I tell you this was no small thing.
During our two weeks of staff training the Director and staff made it crystal clear who the camp was, what they did, and who they represented.
They were a Kingdom Organization that existed to introduce people to the gospel and equip them to serve the King on their way out the gate.
Again, they did not take this lightly.
When you received your t-shirt as a part of ‘graduation’ from the training something was drilled home yet again.
“When you wear this shirt you represent the camp. But more importantly, you represent God.”
On the weekends it was normal for some of the rowdy and party-minded college students to go and have wild weekends. But it was always joked about, if you don’t want to misrepresent the camp, take your shirt off before you leave.
That had always bothered me. It was always an option and a choice to represent the camp well. But the amount of people who wanted to raise a little heck and create chaos would willingly strip off their righteousness and put their old selves back on.
Colossians 3 talks about putting off the old self, the sinful flesh, and putting on Christ and the redemption and righteousness He has for us.
You’re not supposed to switch between the two.
As you go about this life consider who you represent.
You don’t need to be wearing ‘Christian’ apparel.
You need to be marked by Christ and filled with His Spirit.
Take your ambassadorship seriously.
God does.
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Walking Gospel Billboard
