God Heals All Things
Dear reader,
I must confess ever since I was a child, scabs were the most amusing thing to me. I would get hurt, this brown and bumpy thing would appear, I could rip it off and it would return and I would repeat the process until it scarred over.
Yes, that is most likely more information than you wanted this morning, but I wanted to illustrate that strong similarity with sin.
We all sin. And if we say we don’t we are fooling ourselves and those around us.
It’s not a beautiful thing, sin.
It’s ugly and unappealing. Yet we are still tempted and drawn to the very thing that offers us nothing but an empty feeling.
And we rip it open, let it bleed, and do it all again later.
Now I understand this analogy is not perfect by any means, but I’ve been thinking about this lately. I attacked a scab physically and spiritually the other day, there was no lasting joy that came from the activity, it was a fleeting smile if anything.
Yet how does God view sin?
He can’t stand it.
It is an abomination to Him.
He loves us, his children, his creation.
But he cannot be near sin.
It is the very opposite of everything He is.
I’ve always enjoyed the scaring process. Can’t quite put my finger on when it started (most likely with my scab-picking days) but I recall my first scar, clear as day on my forehead.
(It could be the shape of a lighting bolt if you look at it the right way.)
It showed the fact I got hurt. The tumble from my bunk bed at such a young age was no small thing. But I got a battle scar from it, to show that I overcame the difficulty.
I’m sure that is one of the reasons I have small scars all over me, I wanted to look tough and willing to do anything.
But the reality of the matter is very humbling. I lacked self-control. The scars were from my foolishness of not letting my body heal as it was supposed to, I was giving myself unnecessary scars.
Are there any sinful scabs you’re not letting God heal?
Do you keep picking at them?
God is the Great Physician. Let Him give you a check-up.
But you must adhere to His wisdom and each word He says.
Only then can you truly be healed.
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Sinful Scab Picker
