Getting Distracted in Worship?
Dear reader,
I love music. I have for most of my life, and in loving it so much I learned to play it.
My instrument of choice is the drums, but I’ve transitioned into the acoustic alternative lately called the Cajon.
This past weekend we were getting ready to practice our worship set, and just as we began to play our first song one of our musicians screamed, “AHHHH! They don’t have brisket?!?!?”
All of us slowly turned our heads towards him, with a bit of laughter and confusion.
“What?”
He had his phone pulled out. “I need to make a call. This is a brisket emergency.”
Most of us couldn’t take him seriously, but he was trying to be. He walked off stage for about ten minutes to sort out the details of his meaty catastrophe.
I must admit I got rather impatient. I don’t have the best relationship with the idea of practicing worship. I’d rather just do it, and have it be more spontaneous and messy, and because of this setback, the timeframe of the practice was getting pushed back.
As I look back at this time I think of the times I was coming before God and getting quiet before Him. Right as I was getting to a place of intimacy and peace I was either interrupted or distracted into doing something else.
So I’m sure God was used to it by now, but that didn’t mean I wanted to continue that habit towards Him.
I look at these two scenarios and realize I’m no different. I personally have never had a brisket emergency, but I have had personal things come up and just drive me farther away from the time I’ve set aside intentionally.
How about you, dear reader?
Do you get distracted in the times you try to give to God? Keep putting forth the effort, and ask God for the strength to stay focused.
He is the one who gives you perfect peace after all.
Sincerely,
Your fellow Brisket Lover
